IndexNow protocol live across the merch.com.ge domain group
Every new and updated page on merch.com.ge is now submitted to Bing, Yandex, Naver and the IndexNow aggregator within minutes of publication, replacing the slower crawl-based discovery model.
What IndexNow actually does
IndexNow is a protocol proposed by Microsoft Bing in 2021 and now adopted by Yandex, Naver, Seznam and a long tail of regional search engines. The model is straightforward: instead of waiting for a search engine crawler to discover a URL by following a link, the publisher submits the URL directly to a shared endpoint at api.indexnow.org, and every participating engine picks it up. The endpoint is shared across engines so a single submission notifies all of them; the per-engine indexing latency is in the minutes, not the days or weeks of the crawl model.
For a publisher that produces a lot of long-tail content — 1,500 product pages, 240 glossary entries, 80 venues, 50 industries, 75 guides — the indexing latency matters. A new page in a crawl model can take two to four weeks to appear in Bing and Yandex; that is two to four weeks of zero organic traffic to a URL that was specifically written to capture intent. IndexNow collapses that latency to a few hours for most engines, which is the difference between a page earning its keep the month it is published and a page earning it the quarter after.
The protocol is not a ranking signal in itself. Submitting a URL through IndexNow does not boost the page; it merely ensures the page is discoverable. The ranking work — the meta description, the heading hierarchy, the internal linking, the schema markup — still has to be done correctly. But ranking work on a page that the engines do not know about is wasted work, so the IndexNow layer is a precondition for the rest of the SEO programme rather than a substitute for it.
How the integration works
The integration lives in the build pipeline. When a new PHP file is published to the merch.com.ge production tree, the build runner generates a sitemap delta, hashes each new or modified URL with SHA-256 (per the IndexNow spec), and submits the payload to api.indexnow.org using the per-domain key file hosted at merch.com.ge/
The submission is rate-limited at the engine level; IndexNow caps at roughly 10,000 URLs per submission per day per domain. We have never hit that ceiling on merch.com.ge; the per-day URL delta is closer to 30 to 80 URLs on a normal content day and 200 to 400 on a sprint day after a major content drop. The pipeline chunks the submission automatically and the engine confirms within minutes. Failures are retried with exponential back-off up to 24 hours; persistent failures raise a webhook alert on the web-team Slack.
The pipeline also logs the submission record to the build ledger. The ledger records the URL, the SHA-256 hash, the submission timestamp and the engine response, so a content audit can confirm which URLs were submitted when. This is a routine governance step; it is also how we answer buyer questions when they ask why their newly published case study is not yet visible in Bing.
Why this matters for a B2B corporate merch site
The corporate merch buyer journey is unusually long. The first session on the site is rarely the conversion session; the buyer comes back three, five, sometimes ten times across a quarter before they ever raise a purchase request internally. The pages that need to be in the index are not just the high-funnel pages — the homepage, the products index, the contact form — but the long-tail pages that surface on specific queries: "stainless corporate bottle Tbilisi 500 units", "embroidery on a 50-piece polo order Samegrelo", "rush merch delivery Kutaisi tomorrow". Those pages earn their conversions months after they are first indexed, and the IndexNow layer is what keeps the long tail alive in the index even between buyer visits.
The integration also smooths the buyer experience during content updates. A change to the production lead time for a specific decoration method, a price adjustment on a top-SKU, a new programme template added under /en/pages/usecases/ — those changes are picked up by the engines within minutes rather than waiting for the next crawl cycle. For a B2B site where the buyer often saves the URL to revisit later, the freshness of the underlying content matters: a buyer who returns to a page and finds a price or lead time that is three weeks out of date is a buyer who is not coming back.
Limits and counter-indications
IndexNow is not a replacement for sitemaps, robots.txt and a sound internal-linking structure. Engines still weight crawlable signals — internal links, schema markup, canonical URLs, hreflang annotations — and a page submitted through IndexNow with no internal links pointing to it will rank poorly even if it is in the index. The IndexNow layer is the discovery layer; the SEO fundamentals are the ranking layer, and both have to be in place.
IndexNow also does not apply to Google. Google is the largest search engine by usage in most markets and it does not participate in IndexNow. The Google indexing story remains the crawl model, with the sitemap ping endpoint and the Search Console URL Inspection tool as the standard accelerators. Our content publishing workflow therefore runs IndexNow on every URL and pings Google separately through Search Console; the two systems operate in parallel and the per-engine indexing latency differs accordingly.
For buyers and partners in the merch.com.ge audience this is mostly invisible. The practical effect is that new content reaches Bing, Yandex and Naver much faster than it used to, and the content update cycle is now measured in hours rather than weeks.
Frequently asked questions
Does IndexNow affect Google indexing?
No. Google does not participate in IndexNow. Google indexing still relies on the crawl model, with the sitemap ping and Search Console URL Inspection tools as accelerators. merch.com.ge runs IndexNow and a parallel Google workflow for every URL.
Is Corp-Merch affiliated with Microsoft Bing, Yandex, Naver or IndexNow?
No. Corp-Merch is an independent corporate merchandise producer. We use the public IndexNow protocol as a publisher; we are not a partner, sponsor or official supplier of Microsoft, Yandex, Naver or any search engine.
How quickly does a submitted URL appear in Bing after IndexNow submission?
Typical Bing indexing latency is in the minutes after IndexNow submission for a URL that has internal links pointing to it. URLs with no internal links may take longer because Bing still uses crawl-based discovery as a fallback for isolated URLs.
Is there a rate limit on IndexNow submissions?
Yes, the per-domain rate limit is roughly 10,000 URLs per day. merch.com.ge has never approached that ceiling; the per-day URL delta is closer to 30 to 80 URLs on a normal content day and 200 to 400 URLs on a sprint day.
